Bass Pro Shops Pylon Signage in Winnipeg

Some Winnipeg businesses are familiar because of their location long before you think about their name. The Bass Pro Shops location at 580 Sterling Lyon Parkway is one of those places.

Previously operating as Cabela’s, the location is now home to Bass Pro Shops, bringing a familiar outdoor retail destination under a new name and identity. Bass Pro Shops describes the Winnipeg store as a destination for outdoor gear and experiences, with products for fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor activities.

As part of the change, Electra Sign Ltd. fabricated and installed the illuminated pylon signage at the property. The main display features the Bass Pro Shops Outpost branding, with illuminated tenant panels positioned below.

Pylon signage has an important job at locations like this. It needs to be visible from the roadway, establish the identity of the property and remain effective throughout the day and into the evening. The illuminated elements are particularly noticeable after dark, giving the sign a strong presence along Sterling Lyon Parkway.

For Electra, this project was also a good example of the role signage plays when an established business changes its identity. The location was already familiar to Winnipeg customers, but the updated signage helps make the Bass Pro Shops name immediately recognizable.

The Winnipeg Bass Pro Shops is located at 580 Sterling Lyon Parkway, and remains part of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s retail network in Canada.

The Small Construction Details That Matter on Ramallah Cafe's LED Channel Letters

The Details Behind Ramallah Cafe's Illuminated Sign

A finished sign is usually judged by what you can see. Is it easy to read? Does it look good after dark? Does it fit the building and the business?

Those things matter, but there's another side to sign fabrication that most people never see.

When we fabricated and installed the LED lit channel letters for Ramallah Cafe at 1600 Kenaston Blvd #190 in Winnipeg, some of the smallest details were among the most important.

The detail most people never see

Take the drainage holes underneath the channel letters.

They are small openings located at low points along the bottom of the letters. Their job is simple. If moisture finds its way inside an illuminated letter, the drainage openings give that moisture a way to escape.

That becomes particularly important for exterior signage in Winnipeg. Signs have to deal with rain, snow, temperature changes and repeated freeze and thaw cycles. Allowing moisture to drain rather than sit inside a letter is one of those practical details that can help protect the sign's internal components over time.

Nobody walking past Ramallah Cafe is likely to notice those holes.

That's actually the point.

Good sign construction includes plenty of details that should quietly do their job without drawing attention.

A sign that fits the business

The finished Ramallah Cafe signage combines illuminated channel letters with the cafe's distinctive logo and "Middle Eastern Cuisine" tagline. After dark, the bright lettering gives the storefront a clear presence along Kenaston Boulevard.

But the business behind the sign is what really makes the project interesting.

Ramallah Cafe began in 2015 with a goal of sharing Palestinian and Middle Eastern cuisine, culture and hospitality with the Winnipeg community. Their menu includes familiar favourites such as falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, chicken shawarma and shish kabob, along with vegetarian dishes, sharing platters and freshly squeezed juices.

It's the kind of business where the storefront is only the first introduction.

The visible result starts with the invisible details

For us, that's one of the enjoyable parts of sign fabrication. The finished product may look straightforward from the outside, but there are plenty of decisions that happen before a sign ever gets installed.

Materials, construction methods, lighting components, mounting and drainage all contribute to the final result.

The customer sees a clean, illuminated sign.

We see all the little details that helped get it there.

We're glad to have fabricated and installed the LED lit channel letters for Ramallah Cafe and to have added another Winnipeg storefront to our project list.

Pinseekers Golf Lounge Signage

When a business has a strong personality, its signage should reflect it.

That was the thinking behind the exterior signage Electra Sign Ltd. fabricated and installed for Pinseekers Golf Lounge Winnipeg at 1045 St James St.

Pinseekers is not simply a place to practice a few swings. The Winnipeg indoor golf lounge combines simulator golf with a relaxed social atmosphere, making it a destination for golfers and non-golfers alike. Their St. James location offers an indoor setting where people can play, enjoy food and drinks, and spend time with friends.

The exterior signage needed to fit that personality.

Electra Sign fabricated and installed illuminated LED channel letters spelling out PINSEEKERS, along with the distinctive golf-themed logo and supporting GOLF LOUNGE lettering. The combination gives the building a strong visual identity while making the business easy to recognize from outside.

The illuminated letters are particularly effective as part of the overall storefront. During the evening, the bright white lettering stands out against the darker exterior, while the dimensional golf logo adds another layer of visual interest.

For a business like Pinseekers, the sign also communicates something about the experience. The golf imagery immediately establishes the theme, while the larger lounge-style presentation suggests that this is about more than simply hitting golf balls.

Pinseekers now has two Manitoba locations, including the St. James location at 1045 St James St and its South Landing location in Oak Bluff.

We enjoyed working on a project where the signage could be just as energetic and recognizable as the business itself.
